Essay, Research Paper Guide to Getting It On Book review Since the Victorian era the subject of sexuality has been carefully confined to the private arena of the home. Sexuality has been restrained to the function of reproduction. Sex has become something that people feel that they need to hide from others. During the past three hundred years sex has become associated with sin and guilt. Since the past thirty years we have experienced a lessening of prohibitions about sexuality. Societal developments such as the invention of the birth control pill, the civil rights movement, and technological advancements have directly shaped sexuality since the nineteen sixties. During the 20th century there have been several developments specifically intended to mold sexuality. Developments such as motion pictures, television, books, magazines, computers, the internet and others have directly shaped they way we think about sexuality. Guide to Getting It On, a book by Paul Joanindes, has helped change the way its readers feel about sexuality. Guide to Getting It On encourages sexual freedom; helps its readers gain knowledge about sex and demands the right for people speak openly about it. Guide to Getting It On is a very modern sexual education book. Its catchword include conventional topics such as romance, kissing, talking to your partner about sex and sex laws to outlandish topics such as doing yourself in your partner?s presence, oscillator, generator, vibrator, dildo, techno breasts & weenie angst and dyslexia of the penis; improving your sexual hang time. Guide to Getting It on is intended for young adults and adults of all ages. The book is helpful for a large audience interested in sexuality. The book is very open and honest about sexuality. The book uses unconventional slang words that are popular for different of people. For example at the end of the book there is a section titled the goofy glossary with many modern words that are used to describe sexual terms. For example after reading the book and the glossary I learned terms such as Vanilla sex (sex that is not kinky), poontang (a woman?s genitals) and circle jerk (a group of guys that masturbate in front of each other in a circle. I enjoyed reading Guide to Getting It On because it was really entertaining, informative and funny! I think that the chapters on the penis and what?s inside a girl, masturbation, birth control and gnarly sex germs are very informative for young adults experimenting with sex for the first time. These chapters are also helpful for parents of adolescents who want to talk about sex with their children, but do not know exactly what to say. This book will help educate parents and keep them up with the sexual lingo of the current times. After I told most of my friends that I was reading Guide to Getting It On almost all of them asked to borrow it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining knowledge about the subject of sexuality. The first person I loaned this book out to was my seventeen-year-old brother. My mom found it in his room and told us that she threw it away. She thought that it was pornography. A few days later I found it in my parents bedroom. I guess she found out that it was not pornography. After I stole the book back from my mom I loaned it out to my boyfriend and highlighted the massage, the ultimate tenderness chapter. Guide to Getting it On is a very interesting and educational book on human sexuality and I recommend it to anyone interested in gaining knowledge about sex. As a college student this is the first time I have ever been given an unconventional assignment like this. Reading this book and writing this paper has been a very beneficial experience for me.
