Следует отметить, что подобные уроки проводятся довольно часто для достижения самых разных образовательных целей, поэтому в учебной группе уже существовали сформировавшиеся команды. Заранее капитаны команд получили задания: 1) подготовить приветствие; 2) найти оригинальный материал и подготовить по два выступления от команды о работе полиции в Великобритании.

ХОД ЗАНЯТИЯ

1. Организационный момент: приветствие, сообщение темы занятия

TEACHER: Good morning, dear students! I’m so glad to meet you today.

Good morning, dear collegues! Welcome to our lesson.

We continue to talk about police in Great Britain and Metropolitan Police Force. I’d like to note that our work will be organized in a form of competitions between two teams; foreign language teachers will judge these competitions. Now let’s begin our lesson!

Our teams are ready to greet each other.

Команды приветствуют друг друга. Капитаны представляют членов команд.

2. Фонетическая зарядка

Poem “I’m a Policeman .”

I am a policeman dressed in blue,

Here are some things I like to do:

Direct the traffic in your town

Help to keep you safe and sound.

It's my job,

And I like it fine,

No one has better job than mine.

I am a policeman dressed in blue,

I want to be a friend to you,

You can see me every day

I'll wave my hand to you and say:

“It's my job,

And I like it fine,

No one has better job than mine”.

Текст стихотворения высвечивается на экране. Учащиеся прослушивают его и поочерёдно читают.

TEACHER: Have you noticed that simple words of this poem remind us of very important functions of police in Britain? Can you name them?

STUDENTS: Traffic law enforcement, maintenance of law and order, protection of life and property of citizens, safeguard of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens.

3. Аудирование

TEACHER: Dear students, don’t you know what is the difference between the words “POLICE” and “MILITIA”? Listen to the text, be ready to do the exercises, and don’t forget that our competitions go on!

THE IDEA OF POLICE/MILITIA

The idea of the word "police" (from the Greek "politeia") is municipal administration, so the aspect of administration is dominant in this term. The idea of the word "militia" (from the Latin "militia") is military service, so the military aspect of law enforcement activity is prevalent in this case.

It is important for you as cadets of a militia college to think of the definitions of "police" and "militia". What is Police? And what is Militia? Both words arc the names of the institutions or individuals that are to maintain law and order, to provide security for society and its citizens, to fight crime - to prevent crime, to investigate and solve crimes, to enforce the law within the state's domestic territory.

Задания высвечиваются на экране. Письменно выполненные задания капитаны команд передают в жюри.

a) Evaluate (оцените) the following statements using the terms: “True (T), and “False” (F).

Nowadays both words: “police” and “militia” are similar. They denote law enforcement organizations and people who work there.

The most important functions of both police and militia at present are: to maintain law and order, to protect life and property of citizens, to fight crime, to apprehend criminals.

Nowadays the words: “police” and “militia” denote different structures with absolutely different goals and main functions.

4. Their main functions are: …, …, and ….

4. Проверка домашнего задания

TEACHER: Now the representatives of both teams are ready to show the results of their individual work. You know, dear collegues, about two weeks ago every cadet had got additional texts with information about history, organization, everyday work and powers of police but we agreed to listen to two reports from each team.

STUDENTS present 2-3 min. reports: History of Metropolitan Police, Duties and Powers of Police, Main Branches of British Police, Specialists in British Police.

TEACHER: Now let’s see whose team was the most attentive. I show you four lists with key-words and you are to guess what report thay are taken from.

STUDENTS give answers and speak about the most interesting details from the reports.

5. Актуализация лексического материала по теме и дальнейшая автоматизация лексических и грамматических навыков

TEACHER: Dear students, now you are to take part in competitions of specialists. Imagine, you are different specialists in the Metropolitan Police Force. I suggest you to try the work of CID officers or “plain-clothes men”, traffic inspectors and officers of Personnel Departments. You get special tasks with different exercises and only 10 minutes to do the exercises.

It goes without saying that police officers wherever they work should be competent, professional, educated people. We hope you’ll do your best to be real professionals in future.
